The South Galleries
Portraitist and fine artist Martial Durou produced artworks in pencil, charcoal, oils and acrylics before finally finding his calling.
Always seeking for a more instinctive and expressive way of producing his art, Martial worked on studies in knife painting and blind drawing before finally finding a relief with a tempo: The “1 line drawing”.
All of the artworks shown here are produced with a single continuous line. Allowing the painter to get into a tempo, an organic rythm (possibly what some call “in the zone”), and let his pen, brush or Acrylic marker flow into an instinctive line. This way of producing artwork allows the artist to project and translate his own and deepest emotions onto the substrate, and create an image which then becomes a hybrid of subject and emotion, where the subjected becomes distorted and stained in the tempo of the flowing line.
